Cape Town - At just 32, ward 104 independent candidate Lindelwa Mguli is hoping to make a change and improve development in her community.

Mguli vowed to fight overpopulation caused by the lack of housing in the area, which she said has resulted in rampant crime with ongoing drain overflows and filthy streets.

She says she enjoys massive support among the youth in the community.

Mguli, who had exposure to politics at a young age, boasts a formal qualification in Public Administration and Honours in Political Science from the University of the Western Cape, said she was prepared and ready to lead.

“The issue of overpopulation and lack of housing housing needs serious and urgent attention.

“If the housing issue can be tackled, then we will have less crime, less or no drainage overflows and the streets would be cleaner.

“In addition, as soon as the new area gets developed or new houses get built, companies will see opportunity to open stores close by, therefore there will be job creation for those residents,” she said.

Mguli said the community required a young leader who was honest, did not practice favouritism and would be accountable to the community.

“We need a leader that will serve the interest of the community not a political party.

“They should vote for me because as the community we need a leader that will put people’s needs and interest first,” said Mguli.

She said he would strive to unite the community and involve and give opportunity for participation to all the residents regardless of their political affiliation, account to them and be transparent.

Brian Zibula, a Dunoon resident and Mguli’s campaign assistant, said due to the lack of service delivery, job opportunities and youth development in the area they decided to create their own platform as young people.

“We then decided that the only solution to our problems is to appoint Mguli as our independent candidate that will serve Dunoon residents, simply because she’s a young passionate woman who will go out of her way to help anyone.

“She has a long term political background, she is well educated, humble and respectful,” said Zibula.
