Cape Town - The Cape of Good Hope (CoGH) SPCA is in desperate need of dog food in light of the many dogs being handed over to them following recent dog attacks and pet owners' fears.
CoGH SPCA spokesperson Marisol Gutierrez said the SPCA is receiving calls every day from dog owners wanting to surrender their animals to the SPCA.
“We need donations of dog food, all types, to ensure we have enough supplies to see us through this busy period and into the new year. The festive season is upon us, and with the large number of dogs being handed over to the SPCA as a result of the recent dog attacks, we do not want to find ourselves short of dog food,” she said.
Other items needed are newspapers, dog toys, leads and collars.
Last week, the NSPCA said pit bulls were being surrendered to SPCAs in large numbers, and in communities where owners have not surrendered their pit bulls, some people were beginning to take matters into their own hands, with animals being poisoned, stabbed, beaten, and set alight.
