Durban — Various interventions are being implemented by the eThekwini Municipality to address water challenges in the Ntuzuma area.

That was according to the municipality, which said that it was exploring options to mitigate water supply challenges in Ntuzuma.

The announcement comes after a Facebook comment by Senzo Nzori Sotobe when the municipality gave an update on water returning in oThongathi. Sotobe asked about Ntuzuma B, ward 45.

Later, Sotobe said Ntuzuma B has been without water for nine months, and water tankers only arrive when they want to at night.

The municipality said it is implementing various interventions to address water challenges in the Ntuzuma area.

“Various factors are contributing to the current water shortage in the area. These include flood damage to the bulk water pipeline and restricted supply from the Durban Heights Water Works. Repairs by uMgeni Water are in progress, and a significant amount of work has already been completed,” the municipality said.

The municipality said that it was also utilising an alternate supply from the new Western Aqueduct to supply one of the reservoirs in the area.

It added that to supplement water in the area, it would continue to deploy tankers.

“The municipality understands the frustration of residents and apologises for the inconvenience,” the municipality said.

For more information regarding water supply, the public can call the toll-free number 080 311 1111 or use the eThekwini Water and Sanitation WhatsApp number 073 1483 477. Alternatively, email: Eservices@durban.gov.za

Reacting on Facebook, Sizwe Ngubane said yes, they heard the municipality, but the water issue cannot go on forever.

“You must find an immediate solution to this problem. Should you fail to do so, find someone else who can and please ensure you send enough water with those tankers.”

Khetha Teekay said it was the first time he saw the municipality speak of Ntuzuma about the issue of water, and they hoped that water would be restored at least before December. Thanks eThekwini team.

Siyabonga N Cele said: “At last, thanks eThekwini for responding to our cries - ward 38 Ntuzuma. We hope to have water before December.”
