Durban — The KwaZulu-Natal International 48 Hour Film Project has called on the public to take part in its 13th edition competition of writing, shooting and editing a four- to seven-minute film in just one weekend.
People of all ages, skills and experience levels will be challenged to make and complete a film in two days.
All films made and submitted during the weekend of October 7–9 will premiere on October 2–23 at Ster-Kinekor, Gateway Mall, and will stand a chance to be screened at the Cannes Film Festival.
Showcased films will be eligible for an audience recognition award, while those that were submitted on time will be judged for various awards by an esteemed judging panel.
The film declared to be the best film of Durban will be sent to the international arena called the Filmapalooza, to be screened and judged alongside more than 130 city winners from around the globe.
From there, 10 films will be chosen to be screened at the Cannes International Film Festival in the Short Film Corner.
Producer of the KZN 48-Hour Film Project, Nerusha Maharaj-Sadapal, said this was a great platform for film-makers to enter into the industry and get their content on the big screen without the need for fancy equipment.
Maharaj-Sadapal said they were expecting a greater response with some celebrity teams, radio stations and influencers already geared up to participate.
“Film-makers find that seeing their film on the big screen in front of a live audience is a thrilling experience they will never forget. The 2020 event saw 50 teams with a crew and cast of over 600 people successfully making their short film in one weekend despite the peak of the pandemic. This broke the record in KZN as 2021 saw 64 teams at registration,” said Maharaj-Sadapal.
Awards and prizes include:
Best cinematographer, who will take home a week of gear rental consisting of camera, lighting and other equipment compliments of Panavision SA.
Best newcomer – bursary in film-making from Creative Arts College
The second and third runner-up wins 50% of any course from Creative Arts College.
Most active on social media bags a five-page web creation and a year of hosting, compliments of Bizzexpose.
