OPINION - I refer to several articles published in your newspaper regarding the National Health Insurance (NHI).

While this matter has been discussed ad nauseam, the government is being extremely obdurate in persisting with a well-intentioned venture that is doomed to fail, despite being informed and advised to the contrary.

Medical services should not be under central control as this exposes the public to corruption and embezzlement.

The NHI will, ultimately, bankrupt the country and everyone will suffer.

The main issue of concern is

that my freedom of choice to seek health care is being taken away

from me.

It is my constitutional right.

I have no confidence in the forthcoming NHI.

I envisage long queues and an excessive waste of time.

Should I become ill, my time

is still important, not to be frittered away by inefficient services at prescribed hospitals and service providers.

I require service by appointment only in order to manage my time.

Freedom of choice is paramount in a so-called “democratic” nation.
