Be bold with blocks of colour

Colour blocking was the biggest trend on the spring/summer catwalks. Every fashion designer worth their Manolos dressed their models in bold blocks of clashing shades such as tangerine, lime green and yellow.

And while you wouldn’t imagine that an orange shell-top, hot pink pencil skirt and electric blue wedges would work, they look as fabulous as a purple sofa dotted with rainbow-coloured cushions.

Yes, colour blocking has crossed over into the interiors world.

“It’s about taking your daring side a step beyond bold, patterned wallpapers into a world of irresistible colour combinations,” says Georgia Metcalfe, of The French Bedroom Company.

“Think fuchsia-pink armchairs with a turquoise and gold writing desk, or a zesty yellow floor lamp with a dramatic black chest of drawers.”

If playing with clashing primary colours seems overwhelming, then temper the look to your style. Furniture designer Ryan McNeish says: “Bold accent chairs will add a pop of colour when teamed with a neutral sofa.”

The message is clear: be bright, be bold, be brave, and your home will love you for it. – Daily Mail
