Durban - A family of eight were left traumatised after four armed robbers forced their way into their home in the Trenance Park area of Amaotana near Verulam on Friday.
Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) spokesperson Prem Balram, said reaction officers were called out to the house at approximately 10:38am.
Balram said when officers arrived they established that four armed suspects had de-railed the driveway gate and entered the yard.
“One of the suspects approached the front door, pointed a firearm at a female and instructed her to unlock the security gate,” he said.
He said once inside the house, the robbers forced four children aged between 6 and 15 as well as four adults to lie on the floor.
“They ripped two gold chains from the neck of one of the victims and ordered her to remove her gold earrings,” said Balram.
According to Balram, the suspects then ransacked the house and the stolen goods were loaded into a silver VW Polo (registration unknown).
“The victims were not injured,” he said.
Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said a case of house robbery was being investigated by Verulam SAPS.
“It is alleged that on October 7 at 10:45, four unknown men entered the house on Trenance Park in Verulam and held the family members. The suspects took TV sets, laptop, cellphones and other belongings. The suspects fled the scene in their getaway vehicle. The matter is under investigation,” she said.
