Durban - A fence-hopping housebreaking suspect was arrested after he was pursued by members of Marshall Security for almost an hour in the Glen Anil area of Durban North on Saturday.

Marshall Security managing director Tyron Powell said that at approximately 1.40pm the Emergency Dispatch Centre received a call from a client who reported that a housebreaking had just occurred at their home.

Powell said the homeowner supplied the operator with a description of the suspect’s clothing. He said multiple armed response officers and Special Operations Team members were immediately dispatched to the area to search for the suspect.

“After nearly a whole hour of chasing after the suspect, who was fence-hopping between properties on Sagewood Way, our determined members arrested the suspect with the stolen items in his possession, which were positively identified by the homeowner,” said Powell.

He said the suspect and stolen items were handed over to the Greenwood Park SAPS and he was expected to be charged with housebreaking and theft.

Earlier this year, Marshall Security’s armed response officers chased a suspect for an hour in Glenhills. Powell said that just before 6am the Emergency Dispatch Centre received a call from a member of the public who had witnessed a suspect trespassing on a neighbouring property.

He said the caller gave a detailed description of the suspect, which was relayed to multiple armed response officers and Special Operation Team members who were immediately dispatched to the scene.

He added that after an hour-long chase, the suspect was finally arrested.

“It was established that the suspect had stolen the items from the first property he was seen fleeing,” he said.

Greenwood Park SAPS arrived and the suspect was handed over for further investigation and processing.
