Durban - An alleged robber, who was eager to make a quick getaway after a scuffle with a Durban North homeowner, ditched the stolen goods, while fleeing from the property.

Marshall Security said on Friday, its Emergency Dispatch Centre received a panic activation at 3.20am from a client in the Durban North area for a housebreaking that had just occurred.

Marshall Security managing director Tyron Powell said multiple armed response officers and Special Operations Team members were dispatched and arrived on the scene a short while later.

Powell said reports from the scene indicated that the homeowners had heard a noise and upon investigating they noticed a suspect in their house.

“A scuffle between the suspect and homeowners ensued. The suspect managed to escape and fled the scene before the arrival of our team members,” he said.

Powell said a speaker that was taken during the housebreaking was recovered outside the house.

“A search was conducted for the wanted suspect and while searching our members managed to recover a flat screen TV hidden in a bush on Lonsdale Drive which was taken in the housebreaking,” he said.

According to Powell, the flat screen television was returned to the homeowners and the Greenwood Park SAPS were informed.

He said later on that same morning at approximately 5.30am the client called back to inform them that an iMac and an iPhone were also taken during the housebreaking.

“Upon further investigation, the iPhone was recovered. The phone was also returned to the homeowner,” said Powell.

In a separate robbery at 4.20am on Friday in the Glen Hills area, Powell said the Emergency Dispatch Centre was alerted via a WhatsApp Crime alert group that a suspect was walking on Allamanda Road pushing a child’s bicycle.

He said multiple armed response officers and Special Operations team members were dispatched and arrived on the scene within minutes and immediately arrested the suspect.

“Upon searching the suspect various housebreaking implements were found in his possession,” he said.

Powell said the suspect was handed over to Greenwood Park SAPS and will be charged for being in possession of suspected stolen items and housebreaking implements.
