Just a day after Peugeot and Citroën took the wraps off the facelifted 107 and C1, Toyota has now shown off the latest version of its mechanically identical triplet, the Aygo.
A new Aygo already, you might ask? Wasn't it only launched in South Africa last year? It was, but as a bit of a laat-lammetjie - considering it was launched in Europe way back in 2005.
Not that the 2012 makeover is a radical one in any way, the highlight being a new front bumper and bonnet combination.
At the bottom of its face, you'll see a larger airdam that incorporates LED daytime driving lights. There's also a new, wider grille that creates a family resemblance to the latest Yaris. New 14-inch hubcap designs and a vibrant metallic orange paint choice round off the exterior changes.
The Aygo revision also makes its mark on the cabin, where you'll find a new dark grey finish on the dashboard, redesigned steering wheel and ring surrounds for the instruments and air vents that can be finished either in grey, orange or black.
European models also get more features, although local specifications will only be announced when the car is launched here around April this year.
As with the Peugeot and Citroën versions, the Aygo is powered by Toyota's 1-litre, three-cylinder VVT-i petrol engine that pushes 50kW at 6000rpm and 93Nm at 3600rpm. Various revisions have cut the CO2 emissions figure from 105g/km to just 99g/km.
Further mechanical changes improve the car's overall refinement, with extra insulation under the bonnet and adjustments to the clutch system reducing noise and vibration and improved damping on the shock absorbers creating a smoother ride.
