Well, the blue light on the roof of the pictured car pretty much says it all - sorry Audi, but you've stepped right into this one. (Audi has since confirmed that it accidentally sent out pics of its security vehicle not SA-bound, but it's quite fitting anyway).
That said, we're sure there will also be a market for this beast among the business tycoons that the aforementioned politicians pretend to hate so much.
Politics aside, the Audi A8 L will be the first long wheel base model to be offered by Audi South Africa when it arrives here shortly and its well-heeled customers will be able to choose between petrol and diesel power.
The former will also be the most powerful model in the line-up, employing Audi's 6.3-litre W12 FSI petrol engine to scare other road users out of the way with its 368kW/625Nm outputs, allowing it to whoosh from 0-100km/h in just 4.9 seconds, according to Audi.
A more sensible option, for where sense prevails, is the familiar 4.2-litre TDI, which will also be the only LWB diesel offering on our market. This one pushes 258kW and 800Nm for a 0-100km/h time of just over six seconds. Power, in both versions, is channelled to all wheels via Audi's 8-speed tiptronic gearbox.
The A8 L measures 5267mm in length, making it 130mm longer than the standard version and it's also 2mm higher off the ground.
Moving inside, the L models are fit for a king with standard amenities including a snazzy rear-seat entertainment system including two wide LCD screens, rear MMI controller and Bluetooth wireless headsets.
As for the bill? Expect to part with R1 244 000 for the diesel or R1 599 500 for the W12 petrol.
