Audi has already revealed its new TT overseas and the redesigned sports car is set to hit our shores later this year.
That doesn't mean that Audi has finished with the current version. In fact, it's getting blasted off into the sunset with the limited edition TTS Coupé competition, which Audi believes will become a collector's item.
Just 25 of them have been allocated to South Africa, at a price of R664 500, and most of them have already been spoken for.
With the TTS having previously fallen off the local price list, the competition model essentially brings the nameplate back, complete with a 200kW/350Nm version of Audi's 2-litre turbocharged engine. With a six-speed S tronic gearbox shoving power through all four wheels via quattro, the TTS competition will surge to 100km/h in a claimed 5.3 seconds. Road holding is sharpened by standard 'S' sports suspension.
Setting the 'competition' model apart visually is a set of matt aluminium-look 18-inch alloy wheels, a large rear wing and Xenon Plus headlights with LED daytime running lights. Customers can choose between two special paint finishes: Imola yellow or Nimbus Grey.
NO OPTIONS
In what would certainly seem like a first for a German manufacturer, Audi offers no optional extras on the TTS competition. That's because they've packed it with standard kit, everything from MMI satellite navigation to electric seats with lumbar support, Bose sound system, flat-bottom steering wheel, lap timer and an acoustic parking aid.
At R664 500, it's a good R129 000 more attainable than the 250kW TT RS, although you will pay a R77 000 premium over the 155kW TT 2.0T quattro. The price, of course, includes a five-year/100 000km Freeway Plan.
