Ingolstadt, Germany - Apparently this is the new Audi A6 range although looking at it we're not quite sure what they've changed. Oh wait, there's that new inner headlight structure that looks like the South African flag and beyond that Audi tells us that it has made numerous improvements to its equipment range and that they've improved engine performance.
SMART NEW LIGHTS
As far as those headlights go, all SE versions now have xenon lamps as standard, while S line models get LED lights and Matrix LED lights are an option across the board and standard on the RS 6 Avant.
Audi also claims to have made revisions to the single-frame grille, air inlets, bumpers, side sills and rear lights.
HIGH-TECH CABIN
Inside Audi's geeks have upgraded the infotainment systems of various models. The range-topping MMI navigation plus, for instance, now boasts a more powerful graphics processor and can be operated via a user-friendly touchpad.
As you'd expect the new A6 offers a gluttonous array of gadgets, including adaptive cruise control with stop & go function, head-up display and an upgraded night vision assistant with some extra functions.
Other than that, it's a case of a nip here and a tuck there, with a new gear lever design, additional chrome detailing and new trim options such as Luna Silver upholstery and headlining for the S line models.
MORE POWER, LESS THIRST
On the mechanical front Audi has upgraded the engine line-up with the aim of improving fuel efficiency and emissions - which has been done to the tune of up to 22 percent.
Some versions also boast more power, such as the 3.0 V6 TDI turbodiesel units that now offer output levels of 160kW and 200kW (up from 150 and 180) and the twin-turbo version of that engine sees a small power hike from 230kW to 235kW. All models in Europe, barring the 2.0 TDI, are available with Quattro all-wheel drive.
For the true automotive adrenalin junkies the 309kW S6 and 412kW RS6 Avant versions continue as before, both sporting different versions of Audi's potent 4-litre V8 turbopetrol.
Although we have yet to confirm timing, expect the facelifted A6 range to stream into South Africa in the not-too-distant future.
