BMW X5, X6 go Xclusive

BMW cannot be accused of inventing the options catalogue - Harley-Davidson must take responsibility for that - but the Blue Propeller Boys have certainly made it into something of an art form.

The latest pages are focussed on the X5 and X6 models, which one would think are two of the most complete automotive packages on the planet, as issued.

Apparently not, if Munich's munchkins are to be believed; from next year, when the X6 LCI is launched in South Africa, each will be available as an Exclusive Edition model, "offering customers an exclusive choice of unique options and materials enabling them to configure their BMW with an unmistakable personal touch".

Perhaps more importantly, from a real-world perspective, the X5 xDrive30d will also be available with BMW BluePerformance technology, enabling it to comply with the EU6 exhaust emissions standard, due to be implemented in 2014.

That's achieved thanks to a diesel particulate filter in-line with a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) and a nitrous oxide absorber that scrubs nitrous gases and sulphur oxides from the exhaust emissions.

According to BMW the system is maintenance-free for the life of the car and won't affect performance, fuel consumption or emissions, which stay at an average of 7.5 litres/100km and 198g/km of CO2.

OK, enough bunny-hugging - let's get to the good stuff:

The new BMW Individual package for the X5 and X6 includes a new colour, black metallic, door sills with the BMW Individual logo, and distinctive new trim accents with either black patterned-leather or brown merino-leather upholstery. The X5 Sport Package also includes a new M leather steering wheel with integrated gearshift paddles.

At the same time the X5 and X6 will become available as Exclusive Edition models for the first time, available only in metallic bronze (X5) and metallic silver (X6). Special door sills bear BMW Edition signage and the interior gets a touch of extra class with a dark grey headliner, fine wood trim in dark bamboo grain and floor mats with beige edging.

The electrically adjustable, heated front seats are upholstered in beige leather with black contrasting seams.

Exclusive Edition X5 and X6 models are also available with special 20", Y-spoked light alloy rims.
