So you might have lusted after Audi's elegant A7 Sportback at some stage.
But perhaps you were put off by the price. Or by the fact that it's just not fast enough.
If you belong to either of these camps, Audi has just answered your prayers by adding a new entry-level model to the range, and by announcing that the RS 7 will be joining the range.
DE-TUNED 3.0 TDI
Joining the line-up is a detuned 150kW 3.0 TDI that costs R649 500, which represents a R74 400 saving over the 180kW 3.0 TDI.
For that you'll be giving up 30kW, 180Nm and Audi's Quattro all-wheel drive system. That's not necessarily a problem if you're looking for a stylish and comfortable cruiser.
The new base model sends 150kW and 400Nm through the front wheels and there's an economy advantage too, Audi claiming a combined consumption figure of 5.3 litres per 100km and consequent CO2 emissions figure of 139g/km.
There's still a long list of creature comforts included in this deal, the highlights being Milano leather seats, MMI radio Plus with pop-up colour display, Audi Drive Select, cruise control, electrically-operated tailgate, front and rear park assist and Xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights.
As before, you can also opt for three Quattro models in the A7 range, these being the 180kW 3.0 TDI (R723 900), 228kW 3.0T (R734 900) and 309kW S7 quattro (R919 600).
RIP-ROARING RS 7
Having just unleashed the S7 to whet our appetites, Audi will be bringing out the big gun later this year.
The RS 7 will be available to order in August this year, by which time they would have made the pricing available.
It's powered by a 3993cc twin-turbo V8 that pushes 412kW between 5700 and 6700rpm and 700Nm from 1750Nm. It'll get from 0-100km/h in 3.9 seconds, according to Audi, and if you ask (and pay) them nicely, the kind folks will liberate your speed limiter to allow 305km/h.
