Honda's Civic Type-R Concept, the basis for the new high-performance version of the range just launched in South Africa, will have its world debut at the Geneva auto show next month.

The car is expected on

Previous models of what Honda calls its "iconic" car claims to have found its previous successes on the back of an unbeatable combination of performance and affordability "that instantly captured the hearts and minds of driving enthusiasts".

It's based on the new Civic three-door that will appear in Europe later this year but, the automaker says, has "the bold and emotional styling of the widely acclaimed five-door hatchback".

It's power comes from Honda's 150kW, two-litre, DOHC i-VTEC engine, the same competition-proven, high-revving unit used in the outgoing model.

"That means it will be as exciting to look at as it will be to drive," Honda says..

The production version, like its predecessor, will be assembled at Honda's plant in Swindon, England.
