Hilux SRX workhorse raises its game

Prospecton, Durban - Toyota's Hilux 2.5 D-4D SRX Xtra Cab workhorse has (quite literally!) raised its game for 2015, as a tougher, more rough-road capable raised-body version replaces the previous standard-height model.

In response to customer demand, says Toyota, it has increased ground clearance from 181mm to 212mm, which also improves the SRX's approach angle from 21 to 30 degrees, and its departure angle from 18 degrees to 23.

New heavy-duty 16” rims replace the previous 15-inchers, and the final-drive ratio has been shortened from 3.909 to 3.583, sacrificing a little top-end cruising ability in favour of more mid-range grunt.

HARD-CORE PERSONA

In line with its hard-core persona, the SRX has been de-chromed, with a practical black finish for the door handles and mirror housings, and hard-wearing rough-weave fabric upholstery.

Standard kit has been aligned with the rest of the Hilux SRX range, including air-conditioning, a centre console storage box, power steering and windows, and an audio system with RDS, Bluetooth and a USB port.

And, perhaps best of all, the inevitable price increase has been held down to R5000; the Raised Body Hilux 2.5 D-4D SRX is available now at R298 7000, which includes a five-year or 90 000km service plan.
