Frankfurt Motor Show - The long-awaited new-generation Honda Civic Type R won't hit the streets before 2015, but it could be well worth the wait.

Honda Europe's president Manabu Nishimae revealed some juicy details at Honda's Frankfurt show press conference on Tuesday.

The most radical departure is that it will be turbocharged, although this was expected given that the previous high-revving normally aspirated model was killed off by the emission nannies.

It might not be a screamer, then, but the new motor will follow the latest hot hatch trends in offering sophistication and mammoth outputs - Nishimae revealing that the new 2-litre direct injection motor will push at least 206kW.

On top of that, Honda wants it to be the fastest front-wheel drive car around the Nurburgring and on-track testing is already well underway as the accompanying image proves.
