The Johannesburg motor show, open from October 6-16, will become part of the hype leading up to the launch of the Toyota FT-86 II/Subaru BRZ sports coupé, with the FT-86 G Sport concept headlining the Toyota stand at Nasrec.

The G Sport concept has already landed in South Africa and is being polished within an inch of its life at Toyota's marketing offices in Sandton. It shares its free-revving flat-four Boxer engine and rear-wheel drive, six-speed gearbox with the production version, but has very special 'competition' styling.

Toyota SA boss Dr Johan van Zyl says the G Sport concept will share the floor with several other concepts and as-yet unreleased new Toyota models on Toyota's biggest stand yet at a South African motor show.

The production versions of the FT-86 II (which will be badged simply 86, in recognition of the legendary 'Hachi Roku' or AE86 Corolla Toyota) and BRZ will be seen for the first time at the Tokyo motor show in December - and Toyota has confirmed that it will build the 86 in both left and right-hand drive configurations, so it could be released in South Africa, although Van Zyl isn't making any promises just yet.
