Mitsubishi sweetens the Lancer deal

Since taking over the local operation back in 2011, Imperial Holdings has been rejuvenating the Mitsubishi line-up one-by-one and since then we've seen the ASX joining the range and the Triton range expanding.

Now it's time for the Lancer's deal to be sweetened.

While its sharp lines have aged well, considering it has been around since 2007, a rationalised range and steep price increases over the years has seen it fade off the sales charts. In fact, only seven of them found homes last month.

The latest upgrade does not see any styling changes or range expansions, which means that the 2.0 GLS is still the sole option.

This model does, however, receive a higher level of standard specification without increasing its price of R239 900.

The GLS now has a touch-screen audio system, reverse camera, seven airbags (including one for the driver's knee) and multi-function steering wheel with Bluetooth voice control functionality.

As before, the Lancer is powered by a 2-litre normally aspirated petrol engine that's mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. The engine delivers 110kW at 6000rpm and 197Nm at 4200rpm and Mitsubishi claims a combined consumption figure of 7.0 l/100km.

Mitsubishi Motors SA CEO Jaco Oosthuizen said: "We listened to our customers in terms of specification improvements they wanted to see on Lancer and now we are pleased that we have been able to bring a much-improved medium-size car to market in South Africa."

What's more, the after-sales deal includes a five-year/100 000km service plan.
