Aachen-based tuning haus AC Schnitzer's offering for the recently-launched (and widely criticised) second-generation BMW 1 Series is less insane than, say, its sexed-up 6 Series Coupe, but that's appropriate since it focuses on the diesel variants and anyway, we think it's a distinct improvement on the original.

Power upgrades take the 118d from 105 to 126kW and the 120d from 135 to 155kW (not to be sneezed at), a suspension kit gets you 25mm nearer the tarmac, and a surprisingly subtle body kit adds front and rear spoilers, chromed tailpipes and 18 or 19” alloys.

Accessories from the Schnitzer 'Black Line' range adorn the interior, including either an aluminium gear knob or a black one with a digital display that tells you which gear, an aluminium handbrake lever, alloy pedals and footrest and an aluminium cover for the iDrive knob.
