The mantra of this website has always been, "If lots is good, more is better and too much is just right". For those Audi R8 drivers (and potential customers) who agree with us, Volkswagen/Audi tuning specialist Stasis Engineering of Summit Point, West Virginia has the answer.
The 530kW Audi R8 V10 Challenge Extreme Edition.
Stasis calls it "a unique blend of cohesive powertrain and dynamic suspension and braking upgrades, which elevate the V10 R8's performance to a different plane".
The big noises start with an Eaton/Magnusson TVS 2300 supercharger running 0.5 bar of boost, an independent intercooler system to ensure consistent power output, a CNC-machined billet alloy intake plenum for durability and strength, a 75mm diameter, Tig-welded, stainless-steel, cross-flow exhaust system and an ECU remap.
That increases power output 35 percent, from the standard 392kW to a quoted 530kW and torque from 530 to 710Nm - enough to launch it from standstill to 100km/h in 3.1sec, 0.6sec quicker than standard.
The suspension is lowered using shorter, more tightly coiled springs, to improve handling and give a more aggressive appearance while retaining ride quality - and enabling a Stasis-modified R8 to pull more than 1G in lateral acceleration.
Stopping is entrusted to Alcon discs - 390mm in front and 355mm at the rear with two-piece floating discs - and Stasis says they'll pull 1.05 in G braking forces.
All of this runs on 9.5 x 20", ultra-lightweight forged aluminium front and 12 x 20" forged aluminium rear rims shod with high-performance low-profile tyres.
Stasis says its products let you experience the thrill of racing-car performance during your daily drive, bringing racing technology to the street and adding exceptional performance without sacrificing the comfort you'd expect from a luxury car.
It's all about balance, is the Stasis basis: Performance with reliability. Distinction with value. Extraordinary driving experience with a comfortable commute. Precise tuning, integrating braking, handling, and engine performance so your car drives like a racing car yet remains as comfortable as a factory car.
Cost? $72 000 (R495 000) ready for the road - but that doesn't include the standard Audi R8, which you still have to supply.
