The High Court in Pretoria is hearing the second day of the DA's challenge to government's decision to pay former president Jacob Zuma's legal fees.

In March this year, the opposition party lodged an application with the court in which it asked that the government’s decision to pay the massive legal fees incurred by Zuma be set aside.

On Tuesday, legal counsel for the DA argued that the agreement between President Cyril Ramaphosa and his predecessor to cover Zuma's legal costs was unlawful. The legal fees at issue, which is estimated to be around R15.3 million, stems from the spy tapes matter in 2006.

The EFF has also joined the matter and is demanding that Zuma's former personal lawyer Michael Hulley pay back the fees he was paid by the state to represent the former president.
