Cape Town – Deputy Speaker Lechesa Tsenoli has denied there will be a media clampdown on Thursday, promising the decision taken by senior management and security will not be implemented.
Lechesa told the media on Tuesday he did not know who issued the instruction to restrict the media during the State of the Nation Address in the Parliamentary precinct.
Over the last 23 years journalists have been able to move freely during the Sona.
However, an instruction was issued to Parliamentary staff and security that the media will be confined in a media box and unable to move.
If journalists wanted to move they would have to be escorted by security.
Tsenoli said they will not allow the restriction of journalists, and were not informed of this development.
