Johannesburg - President Jacob Zuma has until the end of Wednesday to make fresh representations to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) on why he should not face prosecution.
NPA head Shaun Abrahams gave the president until January 31 to file his representations on why he should not face corruption, fraud, money-laundering and racketeering charges.
Recorded telephone conversations, commonly known at the Spy Tapes, were used by the NPA and Zuma’s legal teams to help attribute an ulterior political motive to the NPA’s desire to postpone Zuma’s indictment to after the ANC’s Polokwane conference in 2007.
Zuma's team initially asked for an extension until February 19 due to "non-availability due to prior legal commitment" and the complexity of the matter since 8 years had passed since the president made representations.
Abrahams had originally given Zuma until November 30 to make submissions.

In October, the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) declared irrational the 2009 decision by the then-head of prosecutions Mokotedi Mpshe to drop charges of corruption, money laundering and fraud against Zuma.
This confirmed a previous High Court ruling on the matter.
