Jerusalem - The Israeli government approved on Sunday a multi-million dollar plan aimed at reducing the country's greenhouse gas emissions over the next decade.

“The recent dry months and the sunniest November since the founding of the state are warning signs for us and the whole world that the threat of climate change is no less than the security threats we face,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told his cabinet.

The plan calls for investing 2,2 billion shekels ($600-million) over the next decade to reduce electricity consumption by “encouraging more efficient home electric devices, renovating and improving buildings, educational programmes and encouraging new Israeli technologies,” a statement from Netanyahu's office said. - Sapa-AFP
