Joburg – THE year 2022 has been riddled with prolonged load shedding, political uncertainty across the political parties, suspensions and infighting…

Our cartoonist, Bethuel Mangena, has used the power of his pen, creativity, wit, intelligence and artistic skill to capture cartoons reflecting the most newsy cartoons this year.

In one of the classic cartoons of 2022, Mangena depicted President Cyril Ramaphosa as Pinnochio with the classic long nose for lying when he promised load shedding would end in 18 months back in 2018.

In fact, as of 2022, South Africa suffered its worst load shedding year ever, with South Africa plunged to darkness for over 150 days this year.

“Load shedding will be a thing of the past,” he promised.

It wasn't to be. And Eskom chief executive officer Andre De Ruyter decided to throw in the towel and resigned on Wednesday, December 14, 2022.

At Cope, Mangena used his skill to depict the declining political party as divided.

Crammed in a sedan vehicle, Cope president Terror Lekota suspends some of the leaders, who in turn, suspend him back.

The festival of suspensions.
