Kenya's Gideon Kipngetich wins Absa Run Your City Joburg 10K

Kenya's Gideon Kipngetich, who claimed the crown in the men’s Absa Run Your City Joburg 10K on Tuesday said he was well prepared for the race.

The 23-year-old Kipngetich came into the race looking to redeem himself after claiming second place at the Absa Run Your City Tshwane 10 km in August.

Kipngetich achieved his goal and stormed to victory in an impressive time of 28:51, setting a new course record in the process.

Speaking after the race, Kipngetich, despite setting a new course record said the race was not easy, adding that his body took time to respond.

“It wasn’t easy, my body took time to respond. It was cold and there was a lot of wind. I tried my best. Last month I was here to run the Absa Run Your City Tshwane 10K and I finished second,” the Kenyan runner said.

Moreover, Kipngetich said after claiming second place earlier in the year, he went back to Kenya and trained hard to boost his chances of securing victory.

“So, I went back to Kenya and trained hard. I was well prepared for this race,” Kipngetich added.

Meanwhile, in the Women’s Glenrose Xaba continued his her fine form and claimed victory in impressive time of 31:51 which was the fastest time ever run by a South African woman at altitude.
