EAST LONDON - Zolani “Last born” Tete and his team are considering taking part in a very lucrative boxing tournament called the World Boxing Super Series.

The organisers of the tournament have confirmed that they are planning to invite the best banntamweights in the world to be part of the tournament that is expected to take about a year.

Tete, the WBO bantamweight champion, took a two week break due to an injury he suffered in Belfast in the Northern Ireland during his victory over Omar Narvaez on April 21. The skilful, Mdantsane-born boxer won the fight convincingly on points after twelve rounds.

Mlandeli Tengimfene, who manages Tete, recently told media that they are now done with the most important fight and weighing options. He added that participating in the World  Boxing Super Series is one of the top options.

“We are contemplating taking part in a big tournament that will take about a year. All the best eight bantamweight champions of the world are going to be part of the tournament. They are going to fight among themselves for a year," he said.

"Already, we have been approached by the organisers of the tournament. They wanted to know if we are interested in the tournament. We said to them, they must wait for us to fight Narvaez and then we will consider their request.

“We promised them that if Zolani beats Narvaez – without a doubt we are in but on one condition: our participation in the tournament must make business sense to us as a team. Business sense is money. That is where we are now. Frank Warren told us he is in talks with the organisers of the tournament.”

According Tengimfene, the organisers of the Super Series made it clear to them that the tournament with not happen without the Zolani Tete. The winner of the tournament is expected to walk away with $11-million. Mlandeli described Super 8 as the tournament of a life time.

The organisers are currently in the midst of hosting the super middleweight and cruiserweight versions of the World Boxing Super Series. George Groves is set to fight Callum Smith in the super-middleweight final while Oleksandr Usyk will face Murat Gassiev in the cruiserweight final in the coming months.
