Highest-paid coaches in the Betway Premiership, and yes, it's who you think it is

South Africans are passionate about their sports, from rugby and soccer to netball and hockey. If it’s on TV, you can bet we’re watching it. Among the most popular sports leagues is the Betway Premiership, which attracts a massive audience of over 19 million viewers.

With such an enormous fan base, it’s no surprise that the Premier Soccer League (PSL) boasts some of the best coaching talent—and with great talent comes impressive salaries. The league’s biggest teams, backed by the most dedicated fans, often pay top dollar to secure the best coaches.

A shake-up saw Nasreddine Nabi, formerly with AS FAR Rabat, join Kaizer Chiefs and become the PSL’s highest-paid coach, surpassing Mamelodi Sundowns' Rulani Mokwena.

Here’s a detailed look at the top 10 highest-paid PSL coaches for 2024:

1. Nasreddine Nabi (Kaizer Chiefs) – R783,000 per month

Nasreddine Nabi is a Tunisian professional football manager and former player who manages the Kaizer Chiefs.

2. Manqoba Mngqithi (Mamelodi Sundowns) – Over R700,000 per month

Manqoba Mngqithi is the "senior coach" of Mamelodi Sundowns.

Eric Tinkler is a coach and former player who manages Cape Town City.

7. John Maduka (Royal AM) – Over R600,000 per month

John Maduka is a retired Malawian footballer. He used to play for Bloemfontein Celtic until his retirement in 2009. He is currently the head coach of Durban, Chartswoth-based club Royal AM F.C.

8. Brandon Truter (Sekhukhune United) – Over R600,000 per month
