DONOSTIA-SAN SEBASTIAN - Valencia snatched a 1-0 win away to Real Sociedad in La Liga on Tuesday courtesy of a late goal from Maxi Gomez and a last-gasp VAR intervention which ruled out a Sociedad effort deep in stoppage time.

Valencia, who had failed to win their previous two matches, took the lead in the 75th minute when Uruguay striker Gomez arrived in the box to bundle in a cross from Jose Gaya.

The visitors looked to have blown their lead in the fourth minute of added time when Sociedad defender Robin Le Normand headed into the net from close range after a goalmouth scramble.

Yet a VAR review showed Sociedad's Aritz Elustondo had used his arm in the build-up to the goal to deflect a shot, which was saved by keeper Jaume Domenech and then turned in by Le Normand.
