The humanoid Optimis robot stole the show at the “We, Robot event on Thursday night at the Warner Bros Discovery studio in New York.
The event was created by Tesla to showcase their new innovations and it was envisaged that Tesla’ self-driving taxi would be the main attraction.
It wasn’t, instead, Tesla’s Optimis robot seemed to grab people’s attention as it was showcased.
The robot drew huge delight as it performed daily human activities like fetching packages and greeting guests.
Optimus was designed to perform “useful tasks” and should be at optimal efficiency and ready to purchase by 2025.
“The Optimus will walk amongst you,” Tesla’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Elon Musk said.
According to Newsbytesapp, Musk said that he hopes that Optimus bring about a ”fundamental transformation for civilisation”.
Musk also hopes that the robot could be produced in large quantities in order to assist on production lines and will be a boon for companies to fast-track their output.
It is estimated that an Optimus robot will cost you around $20,000 (R349,085).
The Robotaxi
The Robotaxi was also showcased at the event.
The cab looks similar to Tesla’s Cybertruck but is smaller and a bit more sleeker than the two-seater truck. At least 20 other vehicles were on display.
The taxi has no steering wheel or pedals and when it is ready for consumers, it will cost below $30,000 (R523,738), according to Musk.
