The Black Coffee Foundation and Virgin Active South Africa have partnered for a fitness event in support of the Mthatha Food Bank, set for November 13 at Fourways Mall.
The event will put attendees through their paces in a series of 50-minute cycling or boxing sessions led by Virgin Active instructors while Grammy Award-winning DJ Black Coffee, real name Nkosinathi Maphumulo, spins the decks.
The initiative aims to raise funds for the Black Coffee Foundation and will go toward supporting the Mthatha Food Bank, a cause that is close to the DJ’s heart.
“I grew up in Mthatha, so I try to support them as much as possible. With the establishment of the Mthatha Food Bank, myself and the foundation hope to be able to make an impact on the lives of the people in that community,” explained Black Coffee.
For exercise and wellness brand Virgin Active, this event speaks to its purpose of empowering people to live active lives.
Nontarha Dandala, cluster general manager for Gauteng, is the woman spearheading this event.
“We are passionate about giving back to local communities through initiatives that get people active. We have an incredible community of members and staff at Virgin Active who are all excited to get involved and make this day a success,” says Dandala.
Fourways Mall is also proud to partner with both the Black Coffee Foundation and Virgin Active, putting up the Fourways Mall Promotions Court as the event venue.
“The Foundation and their work uplifting destitute and disabled people perfectly aligns with the mall’s core values of supporting the community,” says Maria Vartis, group marketing head of Accelerate Property Fund.
“We are excited to play host to this event, as we all come together for an energy-filled day for the greater good,” she said.
The foundation bases its focus on furnishing ongoing aid, upliftment, and opportunity to South Africa’s underprivileged and differently abled by way of sustainable, long-term, education-focused initiatives and other initiatives geared towards fostering radical self-reliance, independence, and social integration.
Internationally acclaimed music pioneer Black Coffee is not new to demonstrating philanthropy; he pulled all stops to organise his 46th birthday celebration to give back to those in need.
The event was aimed at donating a probability of profits from ticket sales for the night to his charitable work, the Black Coffee Foundation.
