In honour of Women’s History Month, The Official South African Charts is committed to highlighting extraordinary female musicians, kicking off the endeavour with Makhadzi.

Over the years, Makhadzi has flourished and gained recognition for her exceptional work and steadfast dedication to her craft.

Through her path, she has received praise for showing young women everywhere that dreams can come true with perseverance and hard work, as the music platform illustrates.

The renowned musician has won numerous awards, including the 2024 BET Award for Viewers Choice: Best New International Act, Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards, and AFRIMA Awards showcasing her impressive talent and achievements.

In one of her career-defining moments, she recently won the 2024 BET Award for Viewers Choice for the Best New International Act.

Her accolade has also seen Gayton McKenzie, Sport, Arts, and Culture Minister, laud her, saying her success was a testament to the resilience of the people and the richness of South Africa’s cultural heritage.

“Today, we celebrate Makhadzi, a shining star whose talent and hard work have not only earned her a well-deserved BET Awards international accolade but also put South African and African music on the global map. Her success is a testament to the power of perseverance and the richness of our cultural heritage. We are incredibly proud of her, as she remains a pillar of our diverse nation.”

Brand South Africa also hailed her win and said: “From Africa to the world, Brand South Africa would like to congratulate South African Afropopstars Tyla and Makhadzi, who claimed victory at the 2024 #BETAWARDS. Thank you for promoting social integration, showcasing our talent to the world, and inspiring the African child to dream big.”

Makhadzi gained global fame with her 2019 hit ‘Matorokisi’, followed by albums ‘Kokovha’ and ‘African Queen’, earning multiple platinum and gold certifications.

Smash hits like ‘Ghanama’ featuring Prince Benza and King Monada became an anthem, cementing her status as a favourite.

The music platform further reveals that Makhadzi’s most recent track titled ‘Number 1’ which was released earlier this year and features Iyanya and Prince Benza, is currently holding strong at #20 on the Local Top 100 and #38 on the International Top 200.

Women’s Month in South Africa commemorates the strength and resilience of women from all walks of life who have made a mark on their multiple functions.
