Honor brand partner and leading amapiano star Young Stunna, real name Sandile Msimango graces the GQ Success Issue, highlighting the collaboration between the leading smart technology company and GQ South Africa.

With Honor having recently launched the Honor 200 series in South Africa, the brand marked this milestone by showcasing the exceptional camera quality of the Honor 200 Pro in the magazine.

It is explained this edition is particularly iconic for the brand as the cover was professionally shot using the Honor 200 Pro.

The GQ Success Issue, known for celebrating and profiling successful individuals across fields such as business, entertainment, sports, and culture, was released on August 8.

When asked how the collaboration came about, Honor South Africa CEO Fred Zhou said: “Working with such an established media house has provided Honor with an opportunity to showcase the industry-leading advancements we’ve achieved with our latest Honor 200 Series. We couldn’t have thought of a better way to put the camera capabilities of the Honor 200 Pro to the test than to shoot the latest GQ cover.”

Behind the creative process of this Honor x GQ collaboration were the unapologetically bold and unique photographer, Zander Opperman, behind the scenes videographer Zwelihle Bukhwele and a team of incredible creatives from art and creative directors to make-up artists whose keen eye for detail captured unforgettable moments.

Molife Kumona, editor-in-chief at GQ South Africa, further elaborated on the collaboration: “When I found out Honor was launching a smartphone that could shoot studio-level portrait photography, and having seen the quality of the previous Honor devices, I knew we needed to do something special with the Honor 200 Pro. I was blown away by the results post-shoot – my team was equally impressed. The video quality, the various portrait modes and the zoom capabilities have got to be my stand-out features, because it’s crucial for us in the glossy magazine industry to maintain high quality in the luxury content we produce.”

The shoot, which took place in Sandton, Johannesburg, featured no professional camera equipment apart from the Honor 200 Pro – known to be a leader in studio-level portraiture photography thanks to new features that were co-engineered by Honor and Studio Harcourt – a Parisian art photography studio that has perfected the method of dramatic lighting, deep contrasts and a unique play of shadows.

The Honor 200 Pro boasts a powerful 50MP main portrait camera, offering an upgraded portrait photography experience. Its 50MP telephoto camera, equipped with a customised Sony sensor, offers superior light sensing capabilities and exceptional detail, particularly with its 2.5X optical zoom, making it ideal for portrait shots, even rivalling the DSLR camera.

Additionally, the device includes a 50MP portrait selfie camera that captures subjects with precision, delivering well-balanced portraits in various settings. The Automatic FOV Switching feature between 1X and 0.8X ensures effortless group selfies as well.

The Honor 200 Series also debuts three new Harcourt portrait modes: Harcourt Vibrant, Harcourt Colour and Harcourt Classic.

Harcourt Vibrant mode caters to popular lighting, shadow and colour preferences, producing bright, lively portraits, while Harcourt Colour mode offers a vintage film look with warm tones and lower saturation, delivering a textured, metallic finish. Harcourt Classic mode provides a timeless black-and-white portrait experience.
