Distraught family members are searching for their loved one, Kuben Pillay, who went missing on January 19 after he visited a salon in Pelican Drive in Chatsworth.

The 26-year-old, who works at a hardware shop in Cato Manor, is from Summerfield in Bayview.

Pillay and his girlfriend of three years, Amanda Moodley, are expecting their first child.

“The morning he left was like any other. He first went to the shop to buy a few things and while he was there, we spoke on the phone. My brother then dropped him off at the salon as he said he would get a ride back. He had a funeral to attend that day," said Moodley.

She said his phone had later been switched off.

"I got worried and went to the salon. I was told he had been there. Kuben is formerly from Newlands and does not know anyone from Chatsworth. He has a brother in Newlands and he too has not seen or heard from his sibling.

“Kuben and I did not argue, so there was no reason for him to leave. We have a baby on the way. He is not that kind of person to disappear. I am stressed about his well-being and want him to return safely."

Moodley said they were searching hospitals and mortuaries. She opened a missing person's case at the Bayview police station.

Pillay was last seen wearing a navy shirt with blue jeans and Puma sneakers.
