Extreme heat can significantly impact the performance and durability of golf balls.

In the recent weeks we have seen some increased temperatures and humidity.

While this has a huge impact on the endurance of the round, it also plays a major factor in equipment and golf ball performance.

Today's segment looks at how heat affects the golf ball during your round.

Compression Variations - High temperatures cause the core of the golf ball to expand, altering its compression. This change can result in a firmer feel upon impact, affecting shot distance and control.

Cover Deterioration - Prolonged exposure to extreme heat can render the outer cover brittle, leading to cracks, discolouration, and even separation from the core.

This deterioration impacts the ball's aerodynamics and flight.

Reduced Performance - The combination of compression changes and cover damage can lead to a loss of distance and control.

Golfers may notice shots feeling less lively and less responsive to their swing.

Elasticity Loss - Extreme heat can diminish the elasticity and resilience of the ball's materials, resulting in shots that lack the usual bounce off the clubface.

It's worth noting that while heat can affect golf ball performance, the impact may not be as significant as other environmental factors, such as air temperature and humidity.

To minimize the effects of heat, it's recommended to store golf balls in a cool, dry place and avoid leaving them in direct sunlight for extended periods of time.

Golf balls are very pricey and getting the best value from them would be to follow the tips and get your money’s worth.

Something you should also take into account is that driving range balls do not give you actual distance as they have been hit numerous times.

You should add on at least 15 to 20 metres as a true show of your distance. Catch you on the fairways!
